The car
Choosing the Cullinan Black Badge in Dubai.
Black Badge is the version Rolls-Royce builds for people who intend to drive it themselves. The chrome is darkened, the 6.75-litre V12 gains 29 HP and 50 Nm, and the gearbox holds gears rather than shuffling up at every opportunity.
None of which stops it being the most comfortable car we rent. Air suspension reads the road ahead with a camera, the rear doors close on a button, and the cabin is quiet enough that a phone call at 120 km/h sounds like one made from a room.
Four adults, luggage for all of them, and a desert track if the day goes that way. The one car here that works for a week rather than an evening.
Premium features
What you actually get.
Black Badge V12
6.75 litres, 600 HP, 900 Nm from 1,700 rpm. It never sounds like it is trying.
Flagbearer suspension
A camera reads the road and sets the dampers before you reach the bump.
Coach doors, closed on a button
Rear doors that shut themselves, which matters in a Dubai summer.
Starlight headliner
1,344 fibre-optic points, and the single most requested photograph in the car.
Four full seats
Adults in the back with luggage, which nothing else in this list can claim.
Silent at speed
Quiet enough that a phone call at 120 km/h sounds like one made indoors.

Questions
Cullinan Black Badge FAQs.
Can I drive the Cullinan Black Badge to Abu Dhabi?
Yes, and anywhere else in the UAE. Oman and Saudi Arabia need written permission and additional insurance, which we arrange with a few days notice.
Is there really no deposit?
None on this car. Some rental companies hold five figures against your card; we do not.
What happens if I go over 250 km in a day?
AED 12 per additional kilometre. There is no penalty rate — the price is the same whether you go over by ten kilometres or two hundred.
Can someone else drive it?
Only a named additional driver on the agreement, with the same licence requirements. Adding one is free.
How quickly can you deliver?
Usually within the hour anywhere in Dubai, subject to the car being back from its previous rental.
